Our university profile
Huron College is a residential, liberal arts, social science and theology college,
academically affiliated with the University of Western Ontario. Huron students have full
access to the academic, cultural and athletic facilities of Western and graduate with UWO
degrees.
Classes at Huron are small: at the first and second-year levels, 80% have less than 50
students; at the third and fourth-year levels, there are less than 25 students in all
classes. The college has an excellent library, computer room and language lab backed by
the academic resources of the University of Western Ontario.
Hurons mission is to promote educational excellence, to encourage scholarly
achievement, to foster international understanding and cooperation, and provide its
students with a broad and useful education that will develop their intellectual skills,
enhance their desire for knowledge, and prepare them for positions of leadership and
responsibility. It is a mission which is perceived in a global context. The range of
academic programs and opportunities students have for extracurricular involvement at
Huron, at Western and in various programs of study abroad, allow for the fulfillment of
these goals.
History
Year of foundation: 1863. Huron College is the founding institution of the University of
Western Ontario; affiliated in 1878.

Standard annual course load for full-time undergraduates: five full-course equivalent
(FCEs), potentially involving a mix of full-year and half-year courses. Two half-year
courses = one FCE.
Student facilities and services
Housing
On campus: First year undergraduate Huron students are guaranteed residence, if
residence application is received by July 2, 1999. Specific residences are also reserved
for upper year students, as well as professional and graduate students. 333 beds are
available in both co-ed and all women residence halls (79% of our rooms are singles).
Annual fees for residence and meal plan range from: $5,615 - $6,315.
Off-campus: Housing is available by contacting the UWO Off-Campus Housing
Registry at 519-661-3550. Average rents in London range from $300-400/month for shared
accomodations plus utilities.
First year student programs
Orientation, peer and one-on-one counselling.
Academic and campus services
Services for disabled students. Students have access to the facilities and services of UWO
and are eligible to represent UWO in all inter-university sports.
Information technology
Huron has a state-of-the-art computer lab and its own network linked to the University of
Western Ontario; this extends to residence rooms. Internet access is available across
campus.
Undergraduate student assistance
$360,000 is allocated to student scholarships, bursaries, and temporary loans.
Scholarships range from $750 to $3,000, while most bursaries are $750 to $1,500. An
estimated 100 to 125 scholarships and bursaries are available to entering students.
