  DESCRIPTION:

The Intensive English Program focuses on academic English. Students meet 5 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Fourteen week semesters begin the middle of September, the middle of January, and the middle of May. A shorter intensive course (7 weeks) begins the end of June.

 LOCATION:

Houston is located in southeast Texas, approximately 50 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. The university is minutes away from NASA, the Texas Medical Center and business, shopping, and performing arts districts.

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Each student should submit a completed and signed application form together with an official copy of their transcript and graduation diploma (with English translation), financial support documents, a small photograph, and the nonrefundable application fee of $100.00 (included in the "other" costs).

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

The Language and Culture Center offers modern language laboratory facilities for student use: audio visual, computer, and individualized instruction.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

A full-time international student counselor provides personal, academic and immigration counseling. Students have access to all university services (e.g., health center, gymnasium, bookstore, library, sporting events, etc.). The program sponsors intramural sports teams, program activities, and trips to area attractions (e.g., Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Galveston beach, Astroworld Amusement Park, Huntsville lake, and the city of San Antonio).

 TRANSPORTATION:

There is good bus service around the metropolitan area. Airport pickup (at both Houston Hobby Airport and Bush Intercontinental Airport) is available with at least one week advance notice.

 OTHER PROGRAMS

DESCRIPTION:

TOEFL Preparation, GRE Verbal Preparation, Pronunciation, Academic Writing, International Teaching Assistant and Faculty Training, off-campus courses at the Texas Medical Center (University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences).
