  DESCRIPTION:

Intensive English for Academic/Professional Purposes offers 22-25 hours weekly, including auditing university classes at advanced levels. There are 6 levels of 2 months each.

 LOCATION:

Denton is a small, safe, friendly, southern city, 30 km to Dallas, Texas. The IELI is located on the UNT campus, a comprehensive university with 27,000 students and over 135 majors. At school breaks, students can easily travel to New Orleans, Florida, Mexico, and the Grand Canyon.

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Applications are received year-round. New courses begin 5 times yearly. Send application form, $50-100 application fee, financial statement, and original transcripts (plus English translation). If application materials are acceptable, an I-20 can be mailed in ten working days. Five types of Applications are available: (1) IELI only (2) IELI and UNT Undergraduate Conditional Admission (3) IELI and Graduate Application (Application processed after IELI completion) (4) UNT Undergraduate Admission (with 550 paperTOEFL/213 Computer TOEFL) (5) UNT Graduate Admission (with 550 paper TOEFL/213 Computer TOEFL)

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

Graduate and undergraduate students who finish level 6 do not have to present a TOEFL score to the University or local community colleges. Undergraduate students may get conditional admission. Then, they may take part-time UNT classes while in level 6.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

IELI has a full-time Student Advisor who coordinates these activities: personal, immigration, and academic counseling; free airport pickup; housing assistance; a comprehensive orientation program; English Club--for conversation with U.S. students; UNT identification card (which gives students access to all university services, facilities, and activities such as libraries, sports facilities, the health center, and concerts); field trips, and regular social, recreation, and cultural activities.

 TRANSPORTATION:

free airport pick up is provided from Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. The city of Denton has trolley service from apartment complexes to the university and the IELI. Many students use bicycles in Denton.

 OTHER PROGRAMS

DESCRIPTION:

(1) Graduate Preparation Class: Completion of this one-semester, 10-hour weekly class substitutes for the Verbal portion of the GRE or GMAT for certain UNT graduate programs. (2) EFL Teacher Training Institute: One-month course, 8-hours daily of English language practice, instruction in current pedagogy and methodology, and computer-assisted learning instruction.
