  DESCRIPTION:

The 5-level Intensive English Program is designed for professionals and university-bound students. It includes 20 classroom hours per week and a minimum of 5 hours per week of listening/computer laboratory. Students at all levels receive a basic computer orientation and computer assisted language instruciton within the curriculum. At advanced levels, students may choose elective courses such as TOEFL Preparation, Computer Program Seminars, Accent Reduction Programs, Pronunciation Workshops, and others. English for Special Purposes and Business English courses are customized to the needs of students for either private or corporate contracts.

 LOCATION:

Austin, located in the heart of Texas, is the state capital and home of the University of Texas, St. Edward's University, and 3 major colleges. It is a safe city. Knicknamed the Third Coast, Austin features lakes, parks, golf course, sporting facilities, a symphony, an opera company, a ballet company, live music every night and great restaurants and shopping. In addition to the great academic, cultural and social atmosphere, Austin is hosts many major computer and semi-conductor companies, such as IBM, Motorola, Samsung, Dell, and AMD. Austin has brief, mild winters and many months of sunny weather. Austin is a few hours away by car from Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Applications are accepted at any time of the year. We offer 3 sessions per year, but our program is flexible enough to accommodate students arriving on any date and for any length of time.  EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

Complete academic counseling and assistance in choosing and applying to American universities is provided along with guided visits to local colleges and universities. A 10-week TOEFL Preparation Course is given 3 times a year and Institutional TOEFLs are given 3 times a year. Other academic test practice for GRE, GMAT, an SAT is available through teacher monitored, computer-assisted instruction. All levels receive a computer orientation class, internet access and e-mail address. Small conversation groups and pronunciation workshops led by native speakers are offered to give more speaking practice.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

Free services include airport pick up, assistance in finding housing, obtaining a driver's license or Texas Identification, or opening a bank account. Getting to know Americans and American culture/customs is offered through weekly activities such as trips in and around Austin, picnics, parties, movie nights, American holiday celebrations, and much more.

 TRANSPORTATION:

IELS is conveniently located near downtown Austin and is on the city and university bus lines. Students can ride the buses for $5/month.
