DESCRIPTION:
The ELI offers intensive English for academic preparation. Instruction includes grammar, reading, written composition, conversation, and listening. Students use the ELI's modern audio laboratory, computer laboratories, and extensive library resources. The ELI offers seven proficiency levels: Basic Beginner to Advanced TOEFL and ACT Preparation classes.

HOUSING COSTS:
Dormitory room with meals $925 per 8-week term, $1300 for 16-week Fall or Spring semester, $700 for 8-week Summer I, $470 for 4-week Summer II program.
LOCATION:
The ELI at the University of Texas-Pan American is located in Edinburg, a small, friendly city in deep South Texas. The University has an enrollment of 12,000 students, and is only 10 minutes away from McAllen, Texas. Edinburg and McAllen offer many restaurants, a variety of popular entertainment spots, beautiful golf courses, and great shopping! Only 30 minutes by car to Reynosa, Mexico, 90 minutes to the beautiful warm beaches of South Padre Island, and 4 hours to San Antonio, UTPA offers a rich and exciting cultural mixture.
APPLICATION INFORMATION:
Applicants must be 17 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Contact the ELI for an application. Application, tuition payment, and financial statement due 3 weeks before program starts.
EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:
Modern library, computer labs, and audio labs. Experienced, degreed teachers. TOEFL and ACT preparation. Students may audit university classes.
STUDENT SERVICES:
Special ELI cultural activities include class picnic, Country Western Day, and other events centered around American culture. University events include International Night, Mexican Independence Day Celebration, University sports, music concerts, theatre productions, and International Student Club activities. University Center recreation room has billiards, ping pong, television, video games. University Health Center on campus offers many services to ELI students.
TRANSPORTATION:
Many facilities within walking distance of campus (restaurants, supermarket, shops). Airport 20 minutes away; pick-up service from McAllen International Airport, fee $25. Please request in advance.
OTHER PROGRAMS
DESCRIPTION:
Evening and Saturday Semi-Intensive Programs, both offering 7 Levels of English and electives such as Conversation, Writing, Pronunciation, and Video courses.
Summer: 4-week Intensive English Program for children, adolescents, and adults. Minimum age is 8 years.
