  DESCRIPTION:

The Intensive English Program has an excellent curriculum developed over 18 years of serving the English needs of international students. It offers 6 levels of English instruction, including grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking as well as a variety of elective courses, such as English through Music, Folklore, Computers and the Internet, Newspaper Writing, TOEFL Prep., etc. The sixth level, University Preparation, offers advanced listening and reading, note-taking skills, library research and writing techniques, and the opportunity to audit UTM regular curriculum lecture classes.

 HOUSING COSTS:

Housing costs are $765 per semester for a shared dormitory room. Private rooms are available at a higher cost.

 LOCATION:

The University of Tennessee at Martin is located in the city of Martin, a small agriculturally-based community with some light industry. Martin is in northwest Tennessee within driving distance of 3 large metropolitan areas -- Nasyville, Memphis and St. Louis. Historic Reelfoot Lake and the Mississippi River lie to the west, while the extensive Land Between the Lakes lies to the east.

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

The Office of International Programs provides a year-round program of academic, cultural, and social/recreational activities to its students. Additionally, students may participate in any activity offered by the university.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

The Office of International Programs provides a full range of student services among which are airport pick-up service at the beginning of each term, social activities, shopping trips, various field trips, student counseling and advising, and a host family program.

 TRANSPORTATION:

The University of Tennessee at Martin is within a 5-minute walk to department stores, grocers, and movies.
