 LOCATION:

Nashville, "Music City, USA," (pop. 700,000), an exciting music-oriented, tourist city in the rolling Tennessee hills; a safe, friendly, inexpensive place to live; a diverse economy celebrated for its music recording industry; a university center with 17 programs in higher education.

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Students 17 and older complete application form, including financial support documents, $35.00 application fee, and $100.00 tuition deposit; I-20 sent to applicant upon admission with information about housing and arrival procedures.

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

IEI provides a 6-level, 5-skill area approach with 25 hours per week of student-teacher contact. IEI emphasizes conversation and grammar and requires a minimum of 2 hours of homework per day. Teachers provide extra work for students upon request. Faculty are MA level or above and emphasize a communicative approach.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

IEI meets students in the baggage claim area of the Nashville airport and provides housing and living assistance: bank orientation, counseling, and problem solving. IEI also has an active, year-round social/cultural program with trips to Elvis Presley's home in Memphis, Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, NASA Alabama Space Museum, Cherokee Indian Reservation, and Kentucky horse country. IEI assist in university placement and campus visits.

 TRANSPORTATION:

Nashville has basic, but limited public transportation. Many students buy cars. Some students ride to IEI on the bus or with host families/friends.

 OTHER PROGRAMS

DESCRIPTION:

IEI offers a 4-week study travel program regularly in August, but on demand. Students audit classes at neighboring universities.
