INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM

  DESCRIPTION:

English Programs for Internationals (EPI) offers three 10-week terms per year beginning in January, March, and June, and one 15-week term beginning in September at 8 levels of proficiency. A Business English track is offered. Classes are taught by highly experienced ESL professionals with graduate degrees in the field.

 LOCATION:

USC is located in the center of Columbia, the state capital and a growing city of 450,000. Columbia is a friendly, safe city known for its southern hospitality and warm climate.

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

U.S. Conversation Partners; TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT preparation, and Sony listening laboratories; e-mail accounts for all students; full use of USC facilities. Students successfully completing the program can be admitted to undergraduate programs with lower TOEFL scores than otherwise required. Administers TOEIC.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

EPI provides comprehensive student services, including airport pick-up, community orientation, university advisement, counseling, and social and cultural activities. Student assistants are on call 24 hours per day for emergency assistance and other necessary support.

 TRANSPORTATION:

The campus is a 20-minute drive from the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. Students live within walking distance to classes and all necessities. There are city buses and taxis.

 OTHER PROGRAMS

DESCRIPTION:

EPI offers 2 credit-bearing courses per semester, 6 hours per week, for university-enrolled students. ITA training is provided yearly through a fall workshop and course. The Summer Graduate Orientation Institute provides 4 weeks of intensive pre-academic preparation for high advanced graduate students.
