  DESCRIPTION:

The English Language Center offers four 11-week terms per year; 6 week sessions are also available. The Intensive program features 6 levels of instruction plus a Business Stream (focus on business English and U.S. business practices, including visits to local companies). Full-time study provides 15 hours per week of spoken and written skills plus a three-hour elective class chosen from academic, business, computer, or cultural topics; optional free grammar, pronunciation, conversation, and film classes. Special offerings include American Life and Language (a culture & conversation course), EFL Teacher Preparation, Distance Instruction Programs, and a year-long International Hospitality Management Program.

 LOCATION:

Drexel University is located near the center of beautiful, historic Philadelphia, fifth largest city in U.S.; two hours or less by car from mountains, seashore, New York City, Washington D.C.

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Students must submit an application, $50 application fee and $100 tuition deposit (both nonrefundable), and financial guarantee of $4935 for 3-month term. Overseas students requesting an I-20 form should apply 6 weeks before the start date. Application materials are available from the ELC, or they can be downloaded from the Internet.

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

Academic advising and visa counseling are available. Students in upper levels may be approved for enrollment in Drexel undergraduate courses. Drexel University also offers conditional admission to both graduate and undergraduate programs. Institutional TOEFL, TSE, and TWE are offered on a regular basis.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

Weekly social and cultural activities include tours, parties, and special events, plus trips to New York, Washington, DC, and other sites. A memory book and alumni newsletter are published each term. The Conversation Network links international and American students. University library, language lab, computer lab, e-mail accounts, and athletic facilities are open to ELC students.

 TRANSPORTATION:

Pickup from Philadelphia International Airport (20 minutes): $10 (shuttle van), $50 -70 (private car). 30th Street Station (trains) is 1 block from campus. Bus, subway, and trolley lines connect to Center City (5 minutes), suburbs, and other destinations.

DESCRIPTION:

EFL Teacher Preparation: prepare to teach English in your home country; 1 or 2 months, $1200 per month. American Life & Language: 4 weeks of English language classes, conversation, field trips, and cultural activities in January, July or August; $1500 includes housing and health insurance. International Hospitality Management: one-year certificate program provides English language training, university coursework in culinary or hotel management, and paid work experience; $7895 per year. Distance Instruction Programs: e-mail courses in writing, grammar, TOEFL essay, and business writing; $500 for 8 lessons. Summer ITA Training program.
