  DESCRIPTION:

The English Language and Multicultural Institute (ELMI) is a private, not-for -profit intensive English program offering six levels of grammar, reading/composition, listening/speaking, and special skills such as TOEFL preparation and writing/pronunciation labs. Computer and audio/visual labs are available. ELMI students may use all U. D. library, sports and recreational facilities and participate in many educational and cultural activities. There are four ten-week terms and one four-week term offered each year. ENGLISH FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES courses are also available for business persons, physicians, and other professionals.

 HOUSING COSTS:

Host Family (and two meals daily): $400 per month University Houses (cooking facilities): $ 55 per week Residence Halls when available: $ 80 per week Apartments also available: $300-$1,000 monthly Meal Tickets may be purchased for on-campus dining.

Dayton, Ohio, a medium-sized, safe Midwestern City.

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Applications may be initiated on-line at the http://www.udayton.edu/~elmi/ site or application materials can be sent to the potential student by mail. $260 deposit and application fee required along with proof of support and completed application form before I-20 can be issued for F-I visa applications.

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

ELMI students in our High-Intermediate and High levels may take one or more university courses FOR COLLEGE CREDIT. ELMI has a highly trained Academic Counselor to assist students in locating and applying to the most appropriate universities and colleges anywhere in the United States or Canada. We also offer field trips and interviews at over 15 local universities and colleges. Students wishing to go on to The University of Dayton are eligible to apply for a special scholarship of $3,000 per year, which may be renewed for all four undergraduate years of study.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

ELMI offers free airport pick-up, housing location, and assistance with banking, car rental, etc. We also assist students to locate proper medical services and provide emergency translation if required. We offer field trips. Conversation Partner programs, and activities to help students acclimate themselves to the United States and our local community.

 TRANSPORTATION:

Students are placed within walking distance or on a direct bus line to the University.

 OTHER PROGRAMS

DESCRIPTION:

English for Professionals programs include three-week to ten-week total immersion courses which offer meals and meetings with American professionals in related fields, foundational English classes, and business and intercultural business communication classes for a wide variety of professions. More details available upon request.

 PRIVATE CLASSES AVAILABLE:

ELMI has a strong private and semi-private instruction program which is available during the day, in the evenings, and on weekends.
