  DESCRIPTION:

The Institute offers Intensive English and Cultural Orientation programs for international students, visitors, and professional and business people. During two 14-week semesters and three 9-week terms, students, from beginner to advanced levels, take 20 hours of instruction per week. Special workshops, field trips, and visits to the unique cultural institutions of New York City, provide an orientation to American culture.

 LOCATION:

The College's attractive new campus is set on 204 acres of park-like land in Staten Island. A quiet, mostly residential borough of New York City, Staten Island is only 20 minutes by ferry from Manhattan.

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Fourteen-week semesters start in September and February. Nine-week terms start in mid-October, beginning of April, and mid-June. Applications are accepted year-round.

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

Academic and personal counseling, assistance with banking, introduction to the local community, and cultural and educational events are available to all students. The Office of Foreign Student and Scholar Services assists students in college application and admission process after they complete the English program.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

The Magazine Club, which produces a student publication each term, the Film Club, and the TOEFL Preparation Workshop are open to all. Students are encouraged to attend lectures, screenings, and other events offered by the college. On their field trips, students explore New York City's exciting cultural and historic landmarks.

 TRANSPORTATION:

The College of Staten Island is easily accessible by public transportation.

DESCRIPTION:

Institutional TOEFL is administered 3 times a year. Upper-level qualified students are permitted to take 1 regular college course while studying at the English Language Institute.
