  DESCRIPTION:

English for academic purposes, content-based curriculum, TOEFL workshops, orientation to the American university, 20 contact hours per week, language laboratory available, four levels of instruction.

 LOCATION:

The University of Nevada, Reno is located at the base of the beautiful Sierra-Nevada Mountains, just four hours by car from San Francisco. The Reno-Tahoe area is noted as an entertainment and recreation capital offering limitless year round recreational activities.

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Students must send an application, a $40 application fee, financial documentation, and sign the financial statement indicating the identity of the sponsor.

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

Academic advising, writing and computer center, multi-media language laboratory, recreation center with Olympic size pool, fully staffed international student office, health center, international club; students at an advanced level may concurrently register for academic classes; conditional admission available, university admission without TOEFL.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

There is a comprehensive new student orientation. The activities program includes trips to local sites (Nevada ghost towns, Reno Rodeo, Indian Reservation), student receptions, parties, dances, banquets, volleyball, shopping and soccer clubs. In the winter there are ski trips and in the summer a trip to Lake Tahoe. A conversation partner program, matching ESL students with American students, is also in place.

 TRANSPORTATION:

Reno-Tahoe International airport is 10 minutes by car from the University. Students can arrange to be met at the airport by a university official. There is no charge for this service.
