  DESCRIPTION:

The Applied Language Institute (ALI) offers a wide variety of programs and courses for people from all over the world. In the Intensive English Program, students can prepare for study at an American university, improve their general English skills, or prepare for careers that require the use of English. In addition to a complete program of English courses, many student services are available. Dedicated staff and faculty members assist students with college applications, recommendation letters, housing, cultural adjustment, visas, tutoring, support services to families, special help sessions and technical writing assistance.

 HOUSING COSTS:

$2,175 for 16 weeks Room and Board, on-campus. Off-Campus: $200-$600 per month room only.

 LOCATION:

100 miles southwest of St. Louis, Missouri

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

For admission into the ALI, a person must submit the following items at least eight (8) weeks prior to the anticipated start date: 1) Complete Application Form. 2) A bank statement verifying that sufficient funds are available for the duration of the study period. 3) $100 non-refundable application fee (to be applied to instructional fee).

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

Advisement services are offered by the International Affairs Office, the administrative home of the ALI. In addition, IEP and academic faculty are available to advise students.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

Services Offered through the ALI include: -Intensive English Program (IEP) -Support Services Program for Visiting Scholars, wives and children -Dissertation/Thesis Assistance -Mentoring -Private Tutoring -Specialized Assistance -Advisement Services -Cultural Adjustment/Social Opportunities -Foreign Language Learning Center -Transportation to/from St. Louis Airport

 TRANSPORTATION:

Students should arrive at the St. Louis, Missouri Airport. Rolla is located 100 miles from the St. Louis airport (a two hour drive). ALI staff will provide free airport pick-up services if provided specifics at least one week prior to the student's arrival time. In addition, a shuttle service is offered at least one day per week enabling students to run local errands free of charge.

 OTHER PROGRAMS

DESCRIPTION:

An English Training and Cultural Adaptation program may be provided for visiting scholars, spouses, and children at no cost. This program is aimed at improving English and ensuring a happy and rewarding stay in the community. It is not intended to prepare one for academic studies.
