  DESCRIPTION:

The Career English Language Center for International Students (CELCIS) is an intensive English program designed to prepare international students for university study in the United States. In addition to our academic preparation program, we offer 2-week summer institutes for students interested in learning English for leisure purposes.

 LOCATION:

WMU is located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a small, friendly city, which is the cultural and commercial center of southwest Michigan. Kalamazoo is 45 minutes from Lake Michigan and is near to numerous county and state recreation areas.

 APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Applicants must send an application, a $20 application fee, a $100 tuition deposit, and a financial statement showing $6200 of support for a 4-month term. Overseas applicants should apply 4 weeks before the term of enrollment. Transfer students must submit a transfer report.

 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES/OPPORTUNITIES:

Academic advising is available daily. CELCIS works with the admissions office to help students gain admission to WMU when possible. A letter of conditional admission will be given to those students who meet all requirements.

 STUDENT SERVICES:

CELCIS students have all the services of WMU available to them. In addition, CELCIS offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities, such as conversation partners, friendship families, field trips (Chicago, Amish country, tourist areas), and cultural and sport events.

 TRANSPORTATION:

WMU is located just 20 minutes from the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport. There is Amtrak service to Chicago and Detroit and a city bus system.

 OTHER PROGRAMS

DESCRIPTION:

CELCIS is also responsible for the credit-bearing ESL courses offered for enrolled WMU international students through the English Department at WMU.

 PRIVATE CLASSES AVAILABLE:

Tutoring is available for those who do not need to be full-time (F1 visa)
